Panighiröl are an acoustic quartet that brings the tradition of Ticino folk music to the stage with
an authentic and engaging sound. The folk music group Panighiröl was founded in 1981 by Giorgio Valli,
Mario Canova, Beniamino Gubitosa and Peo Mazza. Over the course of time, this ensemble has undergone many changes, and a number of musicians from the Ticino folk music scene have been part of it, including Tita Leoni, Michela Domenici, Ettore Della Santa, Claudio Rossi, Gabriele Martini, Tonci Levorato and Barbara Cereghetti.
Our music, rooted in the culture of the Canton of Ticino, is interwoven with modern sounds, creating a unique mix that is rooted in popular traditions, but at the same time is capable is capable of enthusing even younger audiences. The music, influenced by the 1970s, reflects style of popular music with simple instruments such as mandolin, flute, vocals and guitars.
Panighiröl create a harmonious and clear sound, which, combined with the experience of years of acoustic music, enhances the beauty of the legends, which, in their wisdom and longevity, still teach a lot. The texts, adapted from the popular legends of Ticino, are taken from Walter Keller's book ‘Racconti Ticinesi’ dating back to the early 1900s, found in the attic by Beniamino Gubitosa. Dating back as far as the Middle Ages, the legends tell stories of peasants, trades, bears and goblins, bearing witness to mountain labours and the love of nature and its mysteries.
